Pond Siting and Orientation

Resist the temptation of situating the pond in the lowest point in your garden. Such areas are not only often in a frost pocket, which will limit the range of pond plants you can include in your garden pond, but a low lying garden pond might be susceptible to run-off from higher ground elsewhere in the garden, including chemicals, which will encourage algal growth such as blanket weed, even if they don't kill everything else.

Site the pond away from pipes, drains and cables.
