Concrete

Until the arrival of butyl and other flexible membranes, concrete was the favoured material for the building of most garden ponds. It is rarely used today, as it is expensive and has tendency to crack after some years and  leak. When using concrete, it is important to reinforce it with a skeleton of steel and to ensure that the concrete is well prepared and vibrated to make sure that no air gaps are left in the fabric.
