Old clothes are fine, as they will get dirty, however overalls are readily available and have many useful pockets. A sound pair of boots is essential, personally I favour boots which have a steel toecap and are easy to get on and off. Gloves should be worn if your hands are soft or you are dealing with materials like concrete, which can irritate the skin.
