I currently have a 500gallon pond but am extending it which will make it 2000gallons it will be approximatly 17ft long and 6ft long and an average depth of 3ft, at the moment i have 5 quite small koi no bigger then 8inches, 1 grass carp and 2 orfe, i am thinking of getting a few new fish when i extend my pond, i am stuck between a sturgeon and a few others or just more koi. The problem witht the sturgeon is that i have read over a few websites it is hard to feed them as the other fish eat the food before the sturgeon has the chance to eat it, does anyone have a sturgeon and if so can you give me some advice on keeping them and is the food as much of a problem is i think? whichever option i choose i will probably buy another grass carp and maybe a few more orfe, can some people let me know if this is a good option, or just some more advice on my choice of fish? thanks
Star Response:
Get a sturgeon, make sure you have plenty of oxygen running in pond, no blanket weed, and feed koi/ goldfish with floating pellets in 1 corner, and quietly slide sinking pellets in another corner for sturgeon, thats what i do for mine and hes now 4ft long in 4 years

If you have young relatives that visit i would get maybe 4-5 blue gill. They rarely eat and are easy to catch. Buy each kid a pole and let them have fun. Get one monster for that pond. A 21 incher. CARP.. Golden carp. References :

I would buy a group of 8-10 bass, and 4-6 cat fish… they clean the bottome of the ond, any other fish will need more care, I would also get blue acid die that will die youm pond to a blue and make it look cleaner. This die will not harm your fish or plants at the bottom of your pond. References :

I too have a pond, actually two and i adore adding new livestock to my ponds as I expand them. I love koi, dresser goldfish, tadpoles, and my favorites are the dojo’s.
As for feeding the sturgeon, I would suggest that you feed in two areas of the pond simultaneously so that it does not become an issue. I use this tactic so that my fry and baby fish are able to feed with out being bull dosed over by the bigger more aggressive fish.
You could also use a feeding block so that when you hand feed and your fish come in for their meal the block will always be accessible to the less aggressive fish for feeding. References :

For 2000 gallons you already have enough fish. Remember Koi grow …in 2 to 3 years they can get 2 to 3 FEET long EACH! Goldfish can also grow to 14 inches. References :

if you live in the UK in an area that’s prone to frost you need 4ft depth, sturgeon can be Territorial, if i were you i would stick with koi they grow at a good rate when in a large pond (yours sound like a beauty) if you add goldfish they will breed with Koi and you will lose the strain and get ‘mongrels’ which is fine if your not Koi keeping seriously (to show or collect a certain strain) nothing in a pond with a black liner and gin clear water will ever look as good as grade A Japanese Koi, buy them as fingerlings from a breeder or dealer is a very cheap option, you can sort them out as they grow sell the ones that are not up to speck (money for more class fish or to buy the food) as youv’e probably guessed i love Koi but can no longer keep them due to ill health and lack of space. did you Koi means ‘Living Jewels’ References :
