Leaf-mining Midge
The larvae eat serpentine channels just under the surface of waterlily leaves. Eggs are laid on the leaf surfaces and the nites tunnel away at the tissue. The leaf starts to rot between the channels, leaving no more than skeletonized remains. Cut off affected leaves immediately. If this is noy enough, remove the entire plant and submerge ity in a bucket containing an insecticide suitable for killing greenfly. Wash the plant thoroughly in clean water before returning it to the pool.
