Level

Because water levels are flat, it is vital that the edge of a pond is also built flat. The easiest way to achieve this is to use a long spirit level (1-2m long) which can also be used in conjunction with a straight beam of wood. For large ponds (5m in diameter or more) a number of wooden pegs can be hit in the ground and levelled with each other. A surveyor's level will give improved accuracy.
