Moisture-Loving Plants
Achillea (Asteraceae)
Yarrow
The genus contains about 85 temperate species from Europe, western Asia and North America. Although most species prefer a drier soil, A. ptarmica thrives in the moist soil by the water's edge.
Aconitum napellus
Helmet flower, turk's cap, friar's cap. This erect, hardy perennial has rounded, deeply lobed, dark green leaves, with the lobes further divided. The navy blue flowers are borne in dense spikes in midsummer.
Ajuga reptans
This creeping perennial, which can become invasive, is a good ground-cover plant. It has dark green, oblong to spoon-shaped leaves, 5-8cm (2-3in) long. Dark blue flowers are held in short spikes, 15cm(6in) tall, in late spring and early summer. Several cultivators have colourful leaves. Grow in any moist soil in partial shade because the foliage will scorch in full sun.
