Other Signs
Damaged fins and missing scales are unsightly but not necessarily indicators of poor health. Rips in the finnage and loss of scales can easily occur at any time, as a result of fighting or injuries sustained on pieces of pond decor. However, if there are signs of blood spots, streaks, or fungal growth at the place where the scales are missing or the fins torn, then you may be fairly certain that the fish is in poor health and should be rejected for purchase.
