Position
Building a pond near your house will probably cause no problems unless you want a deep pond. A shallow pond, as long as it is not positioned right up against the house walls, should not lead to any difficulties.
If you want a pond that is close to the house consider building a raised one, with a brick or stone surround, rather than digging it into the ground.
Never create a pond immediately next to a house wall because this will cause all kinds of damp problems on the inside of the house. Nor should you fix a waterspout or fountain against a house wall: no matter how carefully you prepare the wall, some damp will penetrate.
