The best way of preventing disease is to control and limit the levels of stress to which your koi are exposed. Stress can be dramatically reduced if you have a basic understanding of water quality and realize how each different parameter will affect your fish. This allows you to recognize the signs of poor water quality quickly and to react to them in the appropriate way. This should be backed up by regular water testing. Many disease problems can be stopped in their tracks by simply maintaining optimum water conditions. Maintaining water quality should go hand in hand with a good, regular programme of system maintenance and husbandry
