Reflections
Running water is dynamic and has the advantage of producing a continually changing pattern of reflections. Whether the water takes the form of a stream, fountain or waterfall, it has the advantage that it produces sound, which can be an additional reason for water a feature with moving water. Still water, on the other hand, provides a more slowly changing pattern, as it moves gently up and down as well as reflecting the gradually changing position of the sun. The reflective properties of water are not much good without something to reflect, and surrounding the feature, whether the water is still or moving, with plants will enhance the play of water as it moves.
