Snails
In an ornamental pool with limited vegetation, water snails are a pest, although in a large wildlife pool, they are vulnerable part of the food chain. The most common species is the fresh water whelk or common water snail, which has a tall, pointed and spiralling shell, about 2.5 (1in) high when mature. They are very fond of soft plant tissue, particularly young waterlily leaves. Under any mature waterlily leaf, you will see the eggs in a jelly like tissue. Trap them overnight on floating lettuce leaves and net them off in the morning.
